With a renewed focus on energy, the oil and gas industry has witnessed substantial grow over the past five years. Much of the new energy resources are off shore or in deeper waters. This off-shore opportunity has driven many energy related businesses to be innovative and use technology to improve performance or reduce costs. Fiber optics play a large roll in this technology evolution and are extensively used on platforms, in exploration and even in well completion. Expanded Beam connectors allow with rugged outdoor cable is used to inter-connect PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) on off-shore platforms. Fiber Optic termini (M29504/14 & M29504/15) are used in streamer technology to explore new fields on the ocean floor. Fiber Optic inter-connect solutions are even used in reservoir management systems to send data to the collection buoys on the ocean surface. TFOCA style connectors are used on drilling rig itself to communicate with PLCs and communicate operational data to control rooms. |
