REMOTE CONTROL OVER DISTRIBUTED FIBER OPTIC NETWORKS
With a renewed focus on energy, the mining industry is seeing resurgence in activity, especially in those areas of mining that produce fossil fuels. Unlike traditional mining techniques, sophisticated robotic systems perform much work that humans used to perform. These robotic systems utilize communication networks to control and acquire data related to the operation. In order to remote this information to the surface, fiber optic cabling with harsh environmental connectors are used to establish a fiber optic links to operations atop the mine. Additional, fiber optics are used to establish wireless communication systems within the mine allowing minors to communicate via voice or data, with the outside world. Connector assemblies used in these applications include TFOCA, Hermaphroditic, F-LINK Fiber OPTIC and F-LINK HYBRID. Fiber optic jumpers using ST, SC or FC connectors are also needed to establish communication between control and data acquisition systems.
